Browser extension FAQ

The Lingo Champion Chrome extension is useful for learning the vocabulary while you're browsing the web. It translates automatically your learning words on the websites you visit.

Does it work with other browsers?

Yes. It should work with Chrome, Firefox, Opera, Edge, and Brave.

How does the word matching in translation work?

The extension tries to find words matching your learning words' translations.

Note that if you have several translations for one word (for example, "casa" could be translated as "house, place, homestead"), then keep them comma-separated in Lingo Champion. This way the extension will check for each individual translation.

How does the sentence translation work?

A sentence is translated only if it contains at least 50% of the learning words (skipped and learned words don't count).

How does the YouTube captions import work?

The import button is in the extension's popup dialogue (see the image above on how to open it).

Captions work largely the same way as they do in the Video feed in the Library.

However, not all YouTube videos have captions. Or they might be in the wrong language. You’ll see an error in that case.

Make sure that you’ve selected the right course (language) in the extension settings because import will try to get captions based on the language you’re learning.

Note that both subtitles and autogenerated captions are supported. However, auto-translated captions are not supported.
