Practice types

Flashcards have two practice types (review modes) - general and SRS (spaced repetition system).

Both modes select up to 7 words for the session which are then randomized and repeated three times (unless they are removed from the session - see below).

General flashcards

Words are picked and sorted by strength - lowest strength first. You will choose each time which strength to assign to the card when you practice the cards.

Note that although this is not the SRS mode, the due dates will still be set behind the scenes based on the strength.

If you set the strength to 5, the card will be removed from the session.

Spaced Repetition System (SRS)

Words are picked by review due date - words with the current date (today) as the review date are selected first. If there’s any room left over, more words will be added (words with earlier review dates first).

Each word is shown three times (theoretically). If you get the word right, the strength will increase by 1. If you get it right on the first try, the card will be removed from that session. If you get it wrong, the strength will decrease by -1.

If you change the strength manually to a higher strength than the word has currently, the card will not be shown again during that session.

How are the due dates for reviewing the cards set?

StrengthDue date
0now
11 day from now
23 days from now
35 days from now
410 days from now
5no due date (it's learned)

Once the word gets the strength of 5, there will be no due date for the word anymore and it’s not shown in SRS anymore.

Settings

Direction

You can choose how the flashcards are shown:

  • Learning → Base (e.g., Spanish → English)
  • Base → Learning (e.g., English → Spanish)
  • Mixed (randomly alternates between both directions)

Formats

Flashcards support two formats, and at least one must be enabled:

  1. Standard  - Shows both text and audio
  2. Audio-Only - Front side plays only audio (no text shown)
  3. Multiple choice - Shows 4 options (guessing the correct option adds +1 to the strength of the word, incorrect guess subtracts -1 from the strength)

You can enable both formats to get a mix of standard and audio-only cards during your practice sessions.

For each format, you can configure when audio plays automatically.
